Public Service Fellows Program Overview
The Public Service Fellows (PSF) Program began in 2014 with support from the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation. Since its inception, over 200 students have completed internships in 85 organizations in 25 North Carolina counties. The goal of the program is to foster workplace experiences for undergraduates at ECU while helping rural communities build professional capacity to address public issues.
Up to 20 students will be chosen each year for SECU Public Fellow Internships (PFI). PFI participants will take part in 20 hours of leadership and professional development workshops in addition to the 330-hour PFI internship experience. Each student selected for the program will receive $17.50 per hour.
Students will be expected to attend a MANDATORY orientation on May 15, 2026, attend workshops scheduled throughout their internship, and at the end of their internship, and present at a State Employees Credit Union Advisory Board meeting either in summer or fall.
Position Summary
The Marketing Intern will assist in a wide range of projects that benefit the mission and vision of Ronald McDonald House. The selected individual will report to the Donor Relations and Community Engagement Coordinator and/or the Director of Advancement. The intern will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of marketing and communications while also gaining a high level of knowledge on how a non-profit organization operates. The intern will assist in the development of creative marketing strategies to promote the work of RMH, assist with updating the RMH social media outlets and website, assist in creating messages to reach new audiences using multiple media outlets and creating short videos for social media, assist in promoting volunteer opportunities, assist with event support, serve as brand as a RMH brand ambassador by representing the organization at community tabling events and other general duties as needed.
Internship Location & Supervisor Information
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern North Carolina is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides a temporary home, support, and access to medical care for families of children receiving treatment from area medical facilities. Our houses offer physical comforts and emotional support designed to promote the whole family’s well-being. These Houses not only keep families close when they need each
other most but increase the ability for families to spend more time with their child, interact with their clinical care team, and participate in critical medical care decisions. The student will work directly with Grace Faller, the Director of Advancement. The RMHC of Eastern North Carolina is located at 529 Moye Blvd. Greenville, NC 27834. This internship will be fully face to face.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Strong communication skills, experience in writing and editing, Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with social media. Canva is a plus. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and develop organizational habits

All students selected for the PFI program must have undergraduate status and meet the following eligibility requirements by the internship start date:
- North Carolina resident
- Good academic standing
- Completion of at least 60 semester credit hours (classified as upcoming Junior or Senior)
- Not graduating prior to the internship end date
