Public Service Fellows Program Overview
The Public Service Fellows (PSF) Program began in 2014 with support from the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation. Since its inception, over 200 students have completed internships in 85 organizations in 25 North Carolina counties. The goal of the program is to foster workplace experiences for undergraduates at ECU while helping rural communities build professional capacity to address public issues.
Up to 20 students will be chosen each year for SECU Public Fellow Internships (PFI). PFI participants will take part in 20 hours of leadership and professional development workshops in addition to the 330-hour PFI internship experience. Each student selected for the program will receive $17.50 per hour.
Students will be expected to attend a MANDATORY orientation on May 15, 2026, attend workshops scheduled throughout their internship, and at the end of their internship, and present at a State Employees Credit Union Advisory Board meeting either in summer or fall.
Position Summary
The intern will play a crucial role in enhancing the overall member experience and contributing to the success of various Chamber initiatives. The intern will gain hands-on experience in event planning, membership engagement, and community outreach. Key Responsibilities: • Member Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with Chamber members, understanding their needs and goals. Assist in implementing strategies to retain existing members and attract new ones. Provide exceptional customer service and timely responses to member inquiries. Maintain accurate member records and databases. • Program Planning and Execution: Contribute to the planning and execution of key Chamber programs; assist in coordinating logistics, scheduling, marketing, and communication for these programs. • CACCE Conference Planning • Leadership Institute • Teen Leadership Institute • Education Network Reception • Business Excellence Awards • Women’s Leadership Event • Event Support: Support the planning and execution of various Chamber events, including networking events, workshops,
and conferences. Assist with tasks such as registration, guest management, and event setup.
Internship Location & Supervisor Information
The Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce is an organization dedicated to fostering business success, economic growth and community development. Standard business hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM-3:00PM on Fridays. Occasional evening events may occur until 7:00 PM a few times per month. This role offers valuable opportunities to build relationships with our business members, including occasional evening events. Located at 302 S Greene St, Greenville, NC 27834, the intern will be supervised by Kimber Stone, Director of Development and Member Engagement.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
The intern will need to be able to think critically and analyze the role and its responsibilities. Demonstrate initiative by offering creative suggestions to add to programs and lastly, showcase their relevant skills by highlighting their existing skills and how they align with the internship requirements.

All students selected for the PFI program must have undergraduate status and meet the following eligibility requirements by the internship start date:
- North Carolina resident
- Good academic standing
- Completion of at least 60 semester credit hours (classified as upcoming Junior or Senior)
- Not graduating prior to the internship end date
