Research Summary: My role in the Hudson Laboratory at East Carolina University focuses on elucidating the structure–function relationships of coagulation proteins, specifically fibrinogen and fibrin. To achieve this, I express and purify fibrinogen from mammalian cell lines such as CHO and HEK 293. Using cryo-electron microscopy, I aim to determine its high-resolution three-dimensional structure. In parallel, I assess the functional properties of purified fibrinogen and fibrin using biochemical assays, including turbidimetry to monitor fibrin clot formation. By integrating structural insights with functional data, my work seeks to uncover how molecular architecture underlies coagulation activity, enabling a deeper understanding that may guide therapeutic strategies targeting blood coagulation disorders.
