Research Summary: The broad goal of my work is to better understand the action of silencer/ counter-silencer pairs in the activation and repression of virulence associated genes of alpha-bacteria. The temporal nature of these pairs is useful for bacteria to evade the immune system and cause disease but the true mechanism behind this has yet to be elucidated. My work represents the basis for the prophylactic treatment of pathogens and the initial steps in developing novel vaccines, antimicrobial agents, and treatments.
