Research Summary: My research investigates the onset and progression of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG) among Indigenous people of African descent, a group disproportionately affected by this condition. By examining the interaction of environmental, behavioral, and genetic factors, we aim to uncover specific contributors to glaucoma risk in this population. Using innovative genomic and epidemiological methods, our goal is to develop a precise, personalized care system tailored to individuals of African descent, ultimately optimizing prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment.
