ECU provides a spectrum of resources that spark relationships between researchers and outside partners. The Office of National Security and Industry Initiatives serves as a conduit through which researchers can connect with ECU’s external stakeholders and align their interest with those of regional business and military partners. The office encourages multidisciplinary research that helps our researchers grow businesses, create and market new technology solutions and incubate innovation. We’re a one-stop shop for external stakeholders looking to bring interdisciplinary thinking to grand challenge problems!

  • Sponsored Research: By backing research at ECU, you’re investing in bright, innovative students and faculty members who advance breakthroughs and also provide strong connections to your company. In 2017, ECU helped researchers file 12 new U.S. patents and brought in a total revenue of $3.1 million dollars.
  • Advisory Councils: Serve on one of ECU’s research center and cluster advisory councils and help guide research priorities at the university. Advisory council membership is open to external industry partners to ensure research activities have implications beyond the theoretical and add real-world value.
  • Workforce Training: ECU offers 84 bachelors, 71 masters, 5 professional and 13 research doctoral degrees, while providing professional development training in economic development, finance, and pharmaceutical development and manufacturing.
  • Research Clusters: ECU launched its university-wide research clusters in 2017, bringing together researchers from across disciplines to solve the region’s toughest problems. Connect with our cluster directors and discover the power of multidisciplinary research.
