Research Summary
My research is broadly concerned with increasing the effectiveness of mental health and addictions counselor training and counseling practices. I am especially interested in how neuroscience research methods can contribute to theories and practices in the counseling field. Thus far my work in this area has involved the development of an EEG experiment designed to measure implicit stereotyping among graduate students in mental health fields. At ECU I am working on research associated with two SAMHSA-funded projects (1 H79 SM080397-01 and 1 H79 TI083425-01). This work is currently focused on exploring two areas—(1) Mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, and (2) The intersection of employment and recovery for individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
