Are you searching for professional development in research administration? The Office of Compliance Monitoring and Strategic Initiatives (CMSI) in REDE is making professional development available to ECU staff working in research administration. We are focusing on online options convenient to users (both teleworkers and busy folks who can’t get away).

Today, we want to alert you to several resources – the NIH Virtual Seminar and three NCURA Webinars available now and in the coming weeks. Each is a high quality presentation by nationally recognized experts in research administration.

There are multiple ways to see these. When feasible, CMSI will set up Teams meetings so groups can view and discuss the presentations. Thereafter, videos will be available for individual viewing.

NIH Virtual Seminar on Program Funding and Grants Administration (available now)

Did you miss the virtual event? Not to worry, the entire conference is still available to you on the event platform until Nov 19! The only thing missing is the immediate access to staff that the “live” event offered. Recordings of the presentations and related materials, as well as a plethora of resources from the Institute and Center Exhibit Hall booths await your exploration.

Subawards and Subrecipient Monitoring (available now)

Summary

Already know the basics of subaward monitoring? Let’s take a deep dive into the complexities, obscurities, and changing landscape of subawards. In this webinar we’ll talk OMB changes, risk appetite, lesser known federal requirements, foreign subrecipient monitoring, subrecipients requiring additional monitoring, and much more!

Prerequisites:  Experience with subawards, terms and Uniform Guidance is recommended.

Compensation Compliance Under Uniform Guidance – Where Are We Now? (available soon)

This webinar will be available later in November (look for another e-mail then). There will be a group presentation (via Teams) on 12 November – 10:00 am – after which the video will be available for individual viewing.

Summary

This webinar will focus on the compensation requirements outlined in the Uniform Guidance 200.430, provide an overview of the Internal Control Framework for compensation compliance, highlight schools who have made the transition to an alternative to effort reporting, and provide an update on any UG changes that may impact this federal requirement.

Prerequisites: Familiarity with the 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance Desk Reference is recommended.

Navigating the Revisions to the UG (available 14 December)

This webinar will be presented by NCURA on 14 December at 2:00 pm. ECU staff members can attend for free – e-mail cmsi@ecu.edu to get a link to attend. Approximately a week later, the video will be made available for individual viewing.

Summary

This webinar will discuss key changes reflected in the 2020 revision, including updated definitions, new requirements as well as modifications to existing requirements.  Our discussion will include the government’s purpose in making a particular change, as well as the potential impact to institutions.  Please join us for an informative session reviewing one of the key documents impacting sponsored awards at our institutions.
