End-of-Project Purchases
Spending at the end of a project can be subject to additional scrutiny since it may be harder to justify the costs as applicable to the funded project. Many sponsors now monitor purchases made at or near the end date of a project. The following guidelines may help you not run afoul of sponsor scrutiny when spending at the end of a project.
- In general, no equipment should be purchased within 90 days of project end.
- Supplies in excess of $5,000 should not be purchased within 90 days of end date. Exceptions must be approved by the ORA.
- Travel not explicitly budgeted and approved by the sponsor that will take place within 90 days of the end date of the project must also be approved by the ORA. No travel costs should be incurred for travel after the project ends.
