RCR Training for Postdoctoral Scholars

Objectives and Goals

The primary goal for the in person Postdoc Responsible Conduct of Research Training Course is to “foster a research culture in which conversations about responsible conduct of research are expected and acceptable” (Kalichman, 2016, p. 2).

The program will:

  • Provide career stage appropriate training in research ethics, focusing on ethical decision making and encouraging researchers to think about the impact of their research and decisions on society.
  • Introduce interdisciplinary views into the ethics training.
  • Continue to highlight and advocate for ethical decision making and foster open discussion among researchers at all career stages.

Over a course of multiple sessions, participants in the Postdoc RCR Training Course must engage in all areas of RCR that are highlighted by the National Postdoc Association.  A selection of other areas will be offered so that participants can tailor their RCR training to best fit their academic expertise, needs, and interests.

Participants will:

  • Discuss key components of the core areas of RCR with peers and subject matter experts.
  • Examine case studies and other examples of ethical and unethical research behavior to form ideas and opinions.
  • Evaluate how ethical research behavior affects their careers, their institution, and its broader impacts on science and research.
