Biomaterials Research Capability and Equipment Funding Opportunities

On Sept. 23 the Biomaterials Research Cluster hosted an online event entitled B”iomaterials Research Capability and Equipment Funding Opportunities.” One of the goals of the event was to make ECU faculty researchers aware of the existing facilities and service centers on campus and ultimately be part of the plan for developing strong proposals for acquisition of state-of-the art research equipment.

Elizabeth Ables (Biology) and Jack Pender (Chemistry) provided great information on how to identify and best utilize current ECU research equipment capability. Kathryn Verbanac (REDE) presented several funding mechanisms by which researchers could apply in order to acquire missing key equipment to take their research to the next level. Stephanie George (Engineering) explained the cluster’s strategic plan to secure equipment and facility funding and then grouped all participants and sent them to a breakout room for further discussion.

Each group recorded their notes and forwarded to the Biomaterials Research Cluster’s co-directors for analysis and development of a strategic plan of action for cooperative applications to equipment funding mechanisms.
