Topic: Research Communication

Presenters: Dr. Pamela Hopkins with ECU’s Center for Communications Excellence and Jules Norwood with University Communications and ECU News Services

Participants will learn how to utilize University Communications and ECU News Services as resources for gaining media attention for their research and preparing for media interviews. We’ll also cover tips for presenting your work to a broader, non-expert audience, ensuring that your findings are both accessible and engaging. Additionally, the session will provide strategies for delivering concise, impactful research pitches, equipping participants to take advantage of opportunities to share their work when they arise. There will be time for participants to practice pitches with the guidance of University communicators. This session is designed to empower researchers to communicate their expertise confidently and connect with the public, media, and potential collaborators.

Topic: Crafting a Compelling Specific Aims Page
This program is geared towards those faculty who seek NIH funding but need some help in framing their research topics in a way that NIH requires—the Specific Aims. Come with your research topics in mind. Clinical faculty are encouraged to attend.

Presenters: Dr. Alexandre Vieira from the School of Dental Medicine and Dr. Keith Keene from Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, along with Dr. Heather Harris Wright from Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.

Panelists Drs. Jamie Perry (CSDI), Chris Geyer (ECDOI), and Shahnaz Aziz (Dept. of Psychology) will describe their experience with submitting NIH proposals.
